6.1 DevBuild 4: Two Times Faster than 6.0

The latest WaveMaker 6.1 DevBuild, #4 to be precise, is more than two times faster than WaveMaker 6.0.  In our first DevBuild we improved application load time by as much as 5X (see malamut’s post where he saw 3X faster load time, http://dev.wavemaker.com/forums/?q=node/3981).  In the most recent DevBuild we’ve improved page load and widget rendering.  In our testing we see that WaveMaker 6.1.3 DevBuild4 is more than twice as fast as WaveMaker 6.0.

To get full performance benefits, you’ll need to use the new editors that are provided in the release.  The new editors are in their own section of the palette, name “New Editors”.  The old editors still exist; you don’t have to upgrade your application.

Even if you don’t use the new editors you will see much improved performance in DevBuild 4.  We’ve made a number of optimizations including:

  1. Reduced the number of events that are published during initialization.
  2. Layers are now removed/inserted into the dom when shown/hidden
  3. Eliminated validation checks during initialization
  4. Optimized ID management
  5. Improved memory management, including eliminating numerous memory leaks
  6. Numerous small optimizations identified and improved

To download, visit the DevBuild page at http://dev.wavemaker.com/wiki/bin/view/Dev/DevBuilds.

As always, we love to hear your feedback.  Thanks to those of you who provided results on earlier DevBuilds.  The feedback we receive impacts where we investigate further optimizations.

We’ve been working on new deployment options, which will be available soon, likely in the next DevBuild.  I’ll post another blog when the next DevBuild is available.
